Assessment 3c(iii)- Green Screen and Effects in music videos

In ths report I will be explaining the uses of chroma key. Chroma key is used to manipulate an image using the chroma key technique. This is used in music videos, film and still photography. Chroma key is usually used in post-production or when it is being filmed. This is a cheaper and much more creative way of of making a music video. One of the themes that are involved when using chroma key is hyper reality as it makes people believe that they are at the location when they are actually in front of a green screen.

Using chroma key is very useful due to the fact that this is a much more cheaper way to shoot films/ music videos instead of going to locations and spending loads of money for that one location. When used correctly it can be very effective to make it appealing to the target audience.

However when using chroma key ineffectively it can cause diconfort to the audience as they will not want to watch it or it will be so bad that it would become viral and is is so bad people will see it a comedy. In David Hasselhoff''s hooked on a feeling this was

Bad Chroma Key

One example of bad chroma key is Twenty 4 Seven 'slave to the music'. Green screen is usually used to show diffrent locations however in this music video there is only different colours being used and this is un-effective because the purpose of green screen is to make sure that the music video presents the idea that hyper reality is being used due to the fact there will be different background used in the background however there was 4 colours that was used red, white, yellow and green. This music video had used been created in early 2000's which is 53 years after green screen was invented which will mean that the use of this will change throughout the years. However this music video tried to take a much more artistic route as they wanted to be much more different from previous artists that had released music videos. There is also a white outline around the pwrformers this would be seen as bad use of chroma key due to the fact that they have not been edited into the shot properly which will then cause disturbia to the audience.

Anther example of bad chroma key is Kanye West's ' Bound 2 ' he use green screen to show more than one location, the desert and the mountains. The use of chroma key in his music video was unsuccessful due to the fact that what is visually seen in the music video is not fully being shown on the screen due to the fact that the locations and him riding on a motorcycle had nothing to do with the fact that he was falling in love however there is some visual interpretation of the lyrics as his wife is included in the music video. However this doesn't present a sense of hyper reality due to the fact that this is really unrealistic. When using chroma key it is supposed to present the idea that the auidnce will also want to / be able to do as they idolise the image of the artist. Kanye west is using green screen to reinforce his image.

The use of chroma key can be effective because if it isn't that good then it will become viral such as the song ' ice ice baby' which wasn't an effective song but ranked up loads of views due to the fact that the use of chroma key wasn't that great. The both of the videos slave to the music had over 3.5 million views and bound 2 had over 59 millions and due to the fact that they both had use chroma key   whoch is not a great as other music videos but they still when viral. However a good IS of chroma key is Katy Perry's ' E.T ' ft Kanye West which had over 427 million views.

Some explanation of benefits and purposes though unclear with considerable spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.

    To improve:
    Proof read your work
Paste the work into Word to check spelling
Put your terminology and explaining points in BOLD
    Refer to PPT http://www.slideshare.net/dpagoffs/12-mv-techniques-analyse-chroma-key
Lacking detailed examples for higher, be more specific about the use of chroma and effects in these videos in relation to music & visuals, and lyrics & visuals
