Transitions

Fade in/ Outs:
This is an example of a fade in and fade out. This is a transition that was created by George Meliz discovered this by accident as his camera jammed and objects appeared and dissapeared in the film.
This was used to manipulate time and space.

Cutaways:
Cutaways was a technique used by Edwin S Porter in the film "life of an American".A cutaway is when a a lot cuts from one scene to another. This is called a cutaway, cutaways are usually used when there is a conversation. This type of shot is used  in emotional movies/ scenes is to amend the pace.  A scene may be improved just by using cutaways, by using different frames. For example when you cut away to the actor that is speaking and then the one that is listening you are able to see the reactions of both of the actors. This makes the audience know that actor number 2 is listening to the first one. This also make the audience feel as if they are interacting in the conversation. Cutaways add meaning to a scene so that people are able to understand the shot more.

 Cross Dissolve

Cross dissolves where created by George Melies it was used to show transitions between two shots. Cross dissolves are usually not used in many movies due to stylistic taste.
