Beat editing
Beat editing is a key when it comes to editing music videos. The reason that this is useful is because people only pay attention to the visuals hence forth beat editing so that the audience becomes interested in the music video, you could also say that beat editing re enforces the track to due the fact that it cuts to the beat. When beat editing you tend to cut to different camera shots/ angles this is so that we are not viewing one long camera shot and also so that people will not be bored of what they are watching.
Before you start editing you must make sure that you mark all of the points where the beats are to ensure that you get all of the beats. When finished with that you then have to start cutting the points where you have marked. You can add different shots so that you will not be looking at one long shot as this will be boring.
Beat editing differs depending on different genres this is as they all take a different approach when i comes to beat editing due to the fact that they have a different aim. In this hip- hop video 'club cant handle me' they use as the target audience that they are aiming this at is much more younger generation with short attention spams so by doing this they will be able to get much more views.
However in rock music videos the fast pace editing is used as this is what will be seen in a live concert due to the fact that they are much more unstable when they are performing live onstage this is reflected in the way that they are portrayed in music videos as the editing is quicker.
Lip Syncing
Lip syncing was used in this music video. This is commonly used in the music videos out today due to the fact that this is to promote the artist. Lip syncing is a convention that is used frequently especially in hip hop or pop music videos this is to re enforce the lyrics due to the fact that people tend not to listen to the song they prefer the visuals.
The first video that I will be evaluating will be my summer music video. One of the techniques that are used is match on action. Match on action is an editing technique that re enforces continuity. This is when one shot cuts to another so that you are not looking at the same one shot. The reason that match on action is used in my music videos is so that people do not become bored of what they are watching and so that they will be intrigued to carry on watching the music video.
Another technique that I had used was cutting to the beat this is useful due to the fact that I had used was making sure that the visuals cut to the beat of the track this is significant so that all of the beats match up with the visuals as this could cause discomfort for the audience as the music will not match up with the visuals which will then make people uncomfortable. Hip- hop and pop music tend to cut to the beat more as the genre of this music is aimed at a younger target and they tend to have a shorter attention spam so by beat editing this will mean that they will pay attention to the music video.
This is the first video that I had to use beat editing. The reason for beat editing is so that people are able to watch a music video without the visuals and the way that it is edited to match with the beat of the song. This music video was not a good due to the fact that in the song there is much more people involved in the music video and
This is the second music video that I beat edited.
In this music video I had used many different shots as a montage technique so that people are able to see different shots. I had used a zoom in and zoom out effect to seem as if it is the speaker worping in and out.
I feel that in the first music video that I had edited there was use of less beat editing due to the fact that I had spent less time editing this. Also due to the fact that I had not fully know how to beat edit properly and this was over the summer which then meant that I could not use the proper equipment to edit it properly. However in the recent music video I had all of the equipment that I needed so that I could beat edit using the proper software.
Another thing about the summer music video was that some parts of the music video was not lip synced to the music itself which can then cause the audience to feel uncomfortable due to the fact that people pay attention to the visuals much more than then lyrics, in my second music video I did not use as much lip syncing due to the fact that there is mainly just the beat, however when I did lip sync it to the music video it had matched up together which then made this music video much more pleasing to watch.
I feel that comparing both of them them that 'Turn down for what' is a much more better edit due to the fact that the editing was much precise and there was alot more shots that I had used and that I had also manipulated to look different such as the way that they are angled. However in the summer music video there was not enough shots for this to be a music video. In this video there visuals did not exactly match up to the music due to the fact that in the music there was a group of people and in this music video there was only two people that were in it which will make this a less realistic music video. Also the lip syncing in the summer music video was different compared to the sound due to the fact that the actor in the music video did not know what they were singing which caused some problems as the audience will be uncomfortable and they mainly pay attention to the music video and this will make them become un- interested. Compared to the 'turn down for what' music video I had edited it so that there was only one use of lip syncing which isn't a lot however it is still effective due to the fact that people will then listen to the lyrics as well and lip syncing is a very important convention due to the fact that it re-enforces you to listen to the lyrics because no one pays attention to the lyrics the prefer the visuals .
