Pop: Ariana Grande – Break Free
|
Pop videos normally have the same theme; this is a chorography with
lip synching. In Ariana Grande’s music video Break Free this is an abstract
due to the fact that it is in outer space almost gives of a star trek vibe
into the future with foreign planets. This also fits in to the genre of pop
due to the fact the is a choreography and there is also lip synching. There
are vibrant colours used to appeal to the target audience which will be young
teenage girls.

Indie:
Arctic Monkeys- Do I wanna know?
|
Indie arctic generally take an artistic root. This is an animated
music video which challanges conventions due to the fact that the band has not
been shown in the music video, this is something that indie artist typically
do. This also contains narrative as the line then turn into women in crop
tops and shorts, this shows the fact that they are sexualising women, without
real women there.

In typical music videos they tend to do the same thing. Hip- Hop
music videos normally contain a performance which mainly contains the artist.
They will also display the amount of wealth they have within the videos, this
displays a sense of hyper reality due to the fact that this is not what they
artist would normally do in their day to day lives. However in Kanye West’s
music video Blackskin head this is an abstract music video due to the fact
that it is filmed using motion picture. Also it is filmed in black and white
so then we can also say that it is artistic sue to the fact that no other
artist has done motion picture filming of themselves and with the use of
black and white this is not generally used in music videos today however
Kanye breaks what is known as the new normal and reverts back to the 1920’s.

R&B:
R Kelly- Ignition
|
R&B and Hip hop are loosely linked together. In the music video
Ignition this has lip synching in it. This features the artist which normally
happens in R&B music videos. There is also the use of sexualisation of
women which has been used since Nat King Coles video Frim Fran Sauce.
