Task B Section 2: Formats

There are three different types of formats that are used in the media industry these are; Single- dramas Series Serials Single dramas are quiet rarely used in TV as they tend to use series and serials much more. Single dramas are to only be shown once and then to never be shown again with no continuations like a serial would be based on the same storyline but many different episodes. A movie such as the Woman in Black is an example of a single drama as it has an ending and they will not be able to continue the story as the main character had died, or a TV program such as a touch of cloth. This will be a single drama as the storyline within that one episode will finish and will not continue.

A series is when every episode is based different characters. In every episode the storyline is linked and it always relates to the same characters. In the episodes there may be many different events happening but it is based around a specific character and the relationship that they may have with other people. Such as The flash.

Serials are stories that do not end after one episode, it continues and it continues from one episode to the next episode. There will be one or two main characters. Breaking bad is a serial as it is based around one character and he’s storyline continues there are many different characters. A serial is normally single- stranded production.

The webisode that I created would be a serial as it is single-stranded because it is based around one character that her story is told through many different episodes. There may be many different characters involved but it is based around her. On the ending of the episode it will continue, at the beginning it will begin how it ended.
